Abstract in brief

The study found that seedlings of Paraberlinia bifoliolata in south Cameroon had higher survival rates, more ectomycorrhiza formation, and greater biomass when planted near adult trees, especially Brachystegia, compared to isolated seedlings.
Initially, there was no difference in seedling survival between those in contact with adult tree roots and isolated ones after 4 months, but after 8 months, seedlings near adult roots showed significantly better survival and mycorrhizal development.
The presence of ectomycorrhiza was most common under Brachystegia, and the likelihood of mycorrhiza formation decreased as seedlings were farther from the tree crown; however, seedling height was unaffected by proximity to adult roots.]
