Abstract in brief

The study tested 12 different essential oils to see if they could stop herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) from replicating in lab conditions, and found that some, especially lemongrass, were very effective.
Lemongrass oil was able to completely inhibit the virus's ability to replicate even at low concentrations, and this effect depended on the amount used.
The antiviral effect seems to happen when the essential oils directly interact with the virus particles, rather than affecting the cells before or after the virus enters them.]
