Abstract in brief
Resistance training programs for pre and early pubertal youth generally improve muscular strength without affecting growth in height and weight.
Most studies used isotonic machines and free weights over 8 to 12 weeks, and gains in strength were lost with detraining; injury rates were low and injuries were rarely reported.
Supervised resistance training with appropriate equipment and low instructor-to-participant ratios is considered safe for young adolescents and does not impair their growth or maturation.]
Firstly it is perfectly safe for children to resistance train.
Resistance training has a very low risk of injury compared to other sports, & does not stunt growth, this is simply a myth & is not supported by science.

@thesquadgawd @CoachStinton @CoachFieszel Actually this is a very common misconception, youth can train just as effectively as adults as long as supervision is present and focus, intent, and technique is there. This article goes into more depth on “growth stunting” https://t.co/W3OiyVlbfo

Resistance training for youth improves strength without affecting growth. Studies show low injury rates and safety with supervised programs using proper equipment, debunking myths about weightlifting stunting growth.

Conclusion: Experimental training protocols with weights and resistance machines and with supervision and low instructor/participant ratios are relatively safe and do not negatively impact growth and maturation of pre- and early-pubertal youth.
@bjersky Oh, I get it—sorry I misunderstood. No, I think that idea has been debunked. Actually playing sports like basketball and jumping creates hundreds of pounds of force when landing and decelerating—way more than in the weight room in most cases.

@theastays @linalitis @MelliWater https://t.co/sD3lMp1zt2 if it doesn’t affect growing children and teens, then it’s safe to say it shouldn’t affect adults either. Please don’t spread misinformation.

@libertyjunky420 It’s not brother. There’s studies on kids as young as 6. I wouldn’t recommend that but a 14 year old volleyball player is more likely to get hurt playing volleyball than resistance training. Kids should be supervised by someone who has a clue through.

@Jayforce @4theculture____ that is a myth that has been debunked. lifting does NOT stunt their growth. obviously if they are young it's better to focus on form over weight.
