Abstract in brief
Intermittent fasting (IF) helps prevent the progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN) in rats by improving key biochemical markers such as blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, albumin, and HDL cholesterol, and by reducing hypertension.
The study shows that IF increases the expression of Sir2, a protein involved in aging and metabolism, which is decreased in diabetic rat kidneys, and also influences the levels of p53, a protein linked to cell cycle regulation and apoptosis.
The findings suggest that IF works through mechanisms involving the MAPK signaling pathway, reducing stress-related proteins like p38 and decreasing cell death indicators such as caspase3 and p53, thereby protecting kidney health in diabetic conditions.

I detail my experience with intermittent fasting as well as what some of the current literature suggests. Research indicates IF may help prevent diabetic nephropathy by improving biochemical markers, increasing Sir2…
