The group shows a mild interest in the physiological effects of fasted training, particularly noting glycogen sparing, but engagement remains low with mostly brief comments and a dismissive remark, which limits the perceived overall impact of the discussion.
AgreementNeither agree nor disagree
The discussions seem generally neutral, with one post supporting the finding that fasted training leads to glycogen sparing, though the others do not express clear agreement or disagreement.
InterestModerate interest
There is slight interest demonstrated, mainly from posts referencing specific physiological processes like glycogen sparing, but overall engagement remains limited.
EngagementLow engagement
Most posts are brief and show low depth, with one dismissive comment ('Parking jap'), indicating minimal in-depth discussion or exploration of implications.
ImpactNeutral impact
The discussions do not suggest significant influence or changed perspectives, as one comment dismisses the topic altogether.
Abstract in brief
This study explored how endurance training in a fasted state versus a carbohydrate-fed state affects muscle adaptations and metabolic responses over six weeks in moderately active males, with both groups showing similar increases in key enzymes and glucose transporter proteins.
Training in the fasted state led to increased fat-binding protein content and higher pre-exercise muscle glycogen levels compared to the carbohydrate-fed group; however, the overall fat oxidation rates during exercise did not differ between groups after training.
Both training conditions produced comparable improvements in peak VO2, and fasting training reduced exercise-induced glycogen breakdown without changing fat oxidation during exercise, indicating that short-term endurance training elicits similar physiological adaptations regardless of nutritional state during training.
Fasted training caused glycogen sparing rather than stimulating the contribution of total fat oxidation or net IMCL breakdown during submaximal exercise in conjunction with high-rate carbohydrate intake.
