Abstract in brief

  • Coffee consumption is linked to lower levels of certain B vitamins (folate, pyridoxal phosphate, and riboflavin) in the blood, which may contribute to increased levels of homocysteine, a risk factor for heart disease.
  • The study found that the more coffee people drank, the greater the reduction in B vitamin levels and the higher the homocysteine levels, regardless of smoking, alcohol use, or sex.
  • The decrease in folate due to coffee intake appears to be a key factor in raising homocysteine, possibly because coffee increases the loss of B vitamins through urine.

Caffeine can be useful, but a major issue is that it depletes vital nutrients like magnesium and B-vitamins. Low magnesium is a widespread neglected issue. Most modern habits drain magnesium and most diets don't supply enough. https://t.co/K6uHUBQhNi https://t.co/w4Jdc3ADgI

Years ago I read that coffee leaches large amounts of B12 from the body. Looked it up after typing the first sentence - apparently it's been studied since. It's a 'dose dependant' effect with ALL B vitamins. Considering it, lol...but just weekly or monthly. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18606630/

34:30 GS: Quotes study that shows an association btw coffee consumption and low Vit B levels. This is bad research. Epidemiological studies have no scientific value. They don't prove or disprove anything. [I don't drink coffee, it makes me sick.] https://t.co/6Zl9F4YkAa
