Abstract in brief
- A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies up to October 2010 found that higher chocolate consumption is generally associated with a reduced risk of cardiometabolic disorders such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes.
- The review included 7 studies with a total of 114,009 participants, mostly cohort studies, and showed that people with the highest chocolate intake had about a 37% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and a 29% lower risk of stroke compared to those with the lowest intake.
- Despite some differences between studies, the overall evidence suggests that consuming more chocolate may be beneficial for reducing the risk of certain heart-related and metabolic conditions.
