The effects of 12 weeks of beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate free acid supplementation on muscle mass, strength, and power in resistance-trained individuals: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
The overall tone reflects skepticism about the study's credibility, exemplified by comments questioning its validity and mentioning past inconsistencies in related research, such as the mention of a problematic 2014 paper that remains online. The tone varies from concern to doubt, indicating moderate engagement and recognition of the study's potential controversy or significance.
AgreementNeither agree nor disagree
The discussions show skepticism about the validity of the study and concerns about research integrity, indicating no strong overall agreement with its conclusions.
InterestModerate interest
Some discussions express curiosity about the study and its implications, though many focus on issues related to research misconduct or bias, reflecting moderate interest.
EngagementModerate engagement
Users are engaging with the topic by questioning methodologies and the reliability of scientific publishing, which suggests a basic but thoughtful level of involvement.

While the discussion highlights issues like scientific integrity, it does not demonstrate broad influence or high impact on the field or public opinion.
Abstract in brief
This study investigated the effects of 12 weeks of free acid beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMBFA) supplementation on muscle growth, strength, power, and performance in trained individuals, including during an overreaching cycle.
The results showed that HMBFA significantly increased muscle mass, strength (bench press, squat, deadlift), vertical jump power, and lean body mass compared to placebo, and also reduced markers of muscle damage and stress (creatine kinase, cortisol) during intense training.
Overall, HMBFA appeared to enhance muscle hypertrophy, strength, and power while helping prevent performance declines during periods of overtraining.]
@Ekkekakis @Hindawi Is it more an exception than a rule that dubious papers are neglected and not retracted? e.g the 2014 HMB-paper had inconsistencies and it was omitted (for no clear reason) from a recent meta-analysis, but it is still online as if nothing had happened.
