ImpactModerate impact

Participants recognize the potential influence on dietary habits and health outcomes, such as muscle retention and metabolic health.

Abstract in brief

  • The text explains the importance of dietary protein in providing essential amino acids that support protein synthesis and various metabolic functions, with a focus on how blood amino acid levels act as signals to regulate these processes through pathways like mTORC1.
  • It highlights that the response of these metabolic signaling systems, especially the activation of mTORC1 by leucine, declines with age and reduced physical activity, suggesting a need to adjust protein intake or activity levels to maintain muscle health.
  • Current dietary guidelines recommend around 0.8 g/kg of body weight per day, but recent research suggests that older adults and active individuals may benefit from higher intake (10 g/kg daily or 20-30 g per meal) to optimize muscle protein synthesis and overall metabolic health, emphasizing redistributing protein across meals for better health outcomes.]

Don’t graze. Aim for 3–5 distinct protein-rich meals per day. Why? MPS has a refractory period (~3 hours). You want to spike it repeatedly — not sip protein constantly.

Higher protein supports satiety, lean mass retention while cutting, metabolic & immune function, bone (via muscle/IGF‑1), and better glucose handling.

About protein: https://t.co/fLwF0mIFQ4 "little anabolic benefit in skeletal muscle with protein meals larger than the minimum amount required for maximum mTORC1 signaling" "concentration necessary to trigger muscle protein synthesis also increases BCAA oxidation"
