AI synopsis

What people are saying

The discussions demonstrate a general agreement with the study's conclusions, as seen in comments highlighting increased risks for men taking over 1000mg/day of vitamin C, and references to related research. The tone is informative but pragmatic, with some posts urging caution for men with a history of kidney stones, reflecting an interest in health safety and behavior adjustments.

AgreementModerate agreement

Most discussions acknowledge the study's findings that higher vitamin C intake in men may increase kidney stone risk, with some recommending caution.

InterestHigh interest

Comments show curiosity and relevance, emphasizing health implications, especially for men with high supplement consumption.

EngagementModerate engagement

Participants reference research links, cite examples, and discuss practical advice, indicating moderate depth of engagement.

ImpactModerate impact

While not universally radical, the mentions of health risk management suggest some influence on personal or public health awareness.

Abstract in brief

  • The study analyzed the relationship between vitamin C intake (from diet and supplements) and the risk of developing kidney stones in a large group of men and women, finding that higher vitamin C intake was linked to increased kidney stone risk in men but not in women.
  • Among men, taking 500-999 mg/day of vitamin C significantly increased the risk of kidney stones, while no significant association was observed in women regardless of vitamin C levels.
  • Dietary vitamin C intake alone was not linked to kidney stone risk in either men or women, and data on stone composition was not available for all cases.

In general I would agree that vitamin C consumption in moderation is unlikely to be harmful, in men who take greater than 1000mg/day there is an association with kidney stones. I included a citation below. If you’ve had a kidney stone and are male, be more careful. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26463139/
