#WOSCOPS enrolled 6595 men aged 45 to 64 years, who were randomly assigned to pravastatin 40 mg/d or placebo. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28877913/ 18% benefit in mortality over 20 years. Significant. Raised baseline LDLc benefited slightly more.

@drcateshanahan @DennisBegos In your book, you reference this analysis of data from WOSCOPS (https://t.co/ER5M0TAhxC) (indirectly, via a BMJ summary and bit by David Diamond, refs 26 and 27 in chapter 7) as showing small benefits of statin therapy.

Now we have Odds Ratios published showing possibly a 30% relative risk benefit in the shorter term. Epi studies for this period are closer to 0.5%. @ProfKausikRay https://t.co/c3jO9FHeBC. Using this data, my question is. Should statins be used for primary prevention of ASCVD?

However the WOSCOPs 20 year follow up @ProfKausikRay suggested that there MIGHT be a small advantage ( 4.5% absolute benefit) to statins long term. https://t.co/mxTWwC2mxk
