What people are saying
The discussions reveal a strong interest in the detailed anatomy of dinosaurs, with comments supporting the reconstruction findings, such as references to muscle studies and the accuracy of different illustrations, while some posts question certain interpretations of cheek structures and jaw muscles. The tone is inquisitive and analytical, reflecting respect for the research but also critical engagement with its implications.
Most discussions reflect support or acceptance of the new cranial musculature reconstructions, especially around implications for understanding dinosaur feeding mechanisms.
Many posts demonstrate a high level of curiosity and engagement with topics like jaw muscles, cheek coverage, and anatomical details, showing strong interest.
Users actively reference scientific studies, ask questions, and compare reconstructions, indicating thoughtful participation.
While some posts question specifics like muscle attachment sites, overall, the discussion suggests that the publication advances understanding but has a moderate influence on broader views.

I, been curious about the idea of ceratopsians having them for, awhile now. https://t.co/2DTVAqV3Lt https://t.co/0jpBzdXce7

@Ahkahna @origamiPete Yes! These are the external mandibular adductors. You can see where one of them inserts on the mandible just behind the jugal hornlet. There's lots more detail on the jaw musculature in @Vert_Anatomist's work here: https://t.co/ckluWZgYIK

@Basilo_tyrannus ↑の研究はヘテロドントサウルスに限らず、植物食恐竜を広く扱っていますね。 ちなみに2018年には頬を否定する研究も出ています。 "New Reconstruction of Cranial Musculature in Ornithischian Dinosaurs: Implications for Feeding Mechanisms and Buccal Anatomy" https://t.co/HArLdkilwO https://t.co/Umf8SczhvE

@Paleonyx_Art @Waxosaurus As far as I know the after pic is more accurate, with the associated minimal cheek coverage. The only reason mammals have cheeks that extend so far towards the front of their muzzles is to be able to suckle https://t.co/mScwm1k3JO

@KingRexy328 There was a muscle study done in 2018 that reassessed the way jaw muscles in ornithischian dinosaurs are reconstructed and concluded that there weren’t any muscle attachment sites on their jaws that would suggest “cheeks”. https://t.co/zoJWn6XQSo
