This systematic review and meta-analysis examined how well clinical practice follows recommended surveillance intervals after polyp removal during colonoscopies, highlighting that worldwide adherence is generally low.
The study found that about 48.8% of surveillance colonoscopies were performed at the guideline-recommended time, with some (over 50%) happening either too early or too late, especially among patients with low risk lesions like hyperplastic polyps.
Differences were observed between regions, with North American guidelines showing higher adherence compared to European guidelines, particularly for high-risk lesion cases.]
