What people are saying
Discussions highlight the strong connection between Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and autoimmune responses, with contributors noting that 89% of POTS patients had elevated autoantibodies against adrenergic receptors. Phrases like 'must-read research' and comments about personal experiences, coupled with references to additional studies, demonstrate urgency and a communal push for wider recognition of POTS's potentially autoimmune nature, emphasizing the transformative implications for treatment and diagnosis.
Many discussions reflect a supportive stance towards the findings of the research regarding the autoimmune nature of POTS.
The discussions show high curiosity about the links between POTS and autoimmunity, indicating a strong relevance to ongoing health discussions.
A moderate level of engagement is evident, as some users reference significant data and seek to understand the complexities behind the disorder.
The consensus is that the publication holds substantial importance for understanding POTS, especially in relation to its potential autoimmune origins.
Abstract in brief
- Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is often misdiagnosed as anxiety disorders, but emerging evidence suggests it may be autoimmune in nature.
- A study of 55 POTS patients found significant elevations in autoantibodies targeting G-protein coupled receptors, especially adrenergic and muscarinic types, indicating an autoimmune connection.
- Although many patients showed elevated autoantibody levels, there was only a weak correlation between these levels and the severity of clinical symptoms, highlighting the complexity of the syndrome.

@ahandvanish You add that research to a1 adrenergic receptor autoantibodies. Probably almost all post-viral POTS have it. But to test it, you will not test it in your north america, I tested myself in a lab in Germany. https://t.co/RV6NxtlgYP

@hiimjakekthx @MeetJess There’s no consensus on that, but there is a growing body of evidence that it may be autoimmune. https://t.co/kFN0hOM7IE

@sanilrege @ZacharyGrinDPT @dysclinic As far as related to LC (and IMO ME/CFS) there is a high likelyhood autoimmunity is somehow the cause, although exactly how still needs more research. Logic suggests a maladaptive immune response interfering with important autonomic regulatory systems. https://t.co/nmpyzqVK3E

@millie_hillie Most POTS cases are Autoimmune. Only autoantibody test available is through CellTrend in Germany( I had mine tested). But IVIG usually only approved if diagnosed w/ another Autoimmune condition like Sjorgens or Small Fibre Neuropathy. https://t.co/0l0oZ47PDO

This study is very interesting for anyone with #POTS https://t.co/KLvfzL3IrC It talks of adrenergic receptors and I know many of us have adrenaline surges and weirdness with "fight or flight". I hope further research is done into this area.
@abledoc @NG20194 Thanks, yes, more research is needed. There are several studies showing these elevated autoantibodies in ppl w POTS & MECFS. This is one showing 89% of POTS patients studied have elevated levels of autoantibodies against the adrenergic alpha 1 receptor. https://t.co/8ehhbCIpWA

https://t.co/dt3EyNuKbZ https://t.co/CPN5CvxHfh
https://t.co/dt3EyNuKbZ基本的には心療内科医は、基準が当てはまればODと診断し、問題をある程度外在化し、薬なども試しながら通院を継続させ、実際は心理社会的背景をしっかり扱っていくと思う。
@KO_Sulli Glad to hear situation is better. COVID-19 sometimes produces POTS-like symptoms, and it isn't entirely clear why, though some theories fit better than others. It may be autoimmune. Not always permanent, but persistent cases often are. https://t.co/4FvPZikLrt
