Abstract in brief
- Organic synthesis, a major challenge in medicinal chemistry, involves predicting product outcomes from given reactants and reagents, which remains a complex problem in synthesis planning.
- A multihead attention Molecular Transformer model outperforms existing methods by achieving over 90% top-1 accuracy on a benchmark dataset, effectively interpreting chemical motifs without needing predefined rules.
- This model not only predicts chemical transformations accurately but also estimates its own uncertainty with 89% accuracy, making it versatile by handling inputs without a reactant-reagent split and accounting for stereochemistry.

For reaction (https://t.co/6V99uXXVpG) and yield prediction (https://t.co/7Zzc8JZFnL), we analysed different data augmentations using equivalent SMILES. We generally observed that it made our models more robust and accurate.
Invalid SMILES were never a problem for the chemical reaction tasks we approached (<1% invalid SMILES). We observed that in supervised tasks, chemical reaction language models learn the SMILES grammar almost immediately. https://t.co/SxF44Ix1CW https://t.co/wZRIYN6tD8

@kjelljorner @Ben_Hoov @hen_str @teodorolaino @IBMResearch @reymondgroup In previous work, we used encoder-decoder models to predict products from precursors (https://t.co/usDVueAuC4). In this study, we input the full reaction (precursors>>products) and learn contextual representations of the atoms using (AL)BERT models.
