The discussions consistently endorse the article's findings, using phrases like "high heritability" and "genetic basis" to underline the importance of genetics in dog behavior. Examples such as references to specific studies (e.g., MacLean et al. 2019) and comments on behavioral traits being breed-specific demonstrate a strong collective interest and engagement, shaped by a tone that balances scientific recognition with practical implications.

Abstract in brief
This study analyzed over 14,000 dogs from 101 breeds and found that many behavioral traits are highly heritable and linked to genetic differences between breeds, highlighting the biological basis of behavior.
Researchers identified 131 specific genetic markers, known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), associated with breed differences in behavior, which are located in genes active in the brain and related to neurobiological functions.
The findings suggest that dog behavior is strongly influenced by genetics, making dogs a valuable model for studying the evolution and genetic basis of complex behavioral traits.
It only took a few hundred years for large brain-based complex trait differences (including behavioral differences) between dog breeds to take hold.

@ItIsHoeMath There are several breeds that show problematic behavior at the same level or higher than pit bulls, but those breeds tend to be more rare and more expensive than a pit bull. Pit bulls are relatively easy to get ahold of, chows are not.

Its funny how people agree certain dog breeds share general behavioral characteristics but for pitbulls its met with excuses. Read "Highly heritable and functionally relevant breed differences in dog behaviour"
@ChristinaHWheat I think they had 52 breeds and 11,418 dogs. But it does not look like they included measures of within-breed variation in the report. This paper reported high heritability of behavior among breeds and low heritability within breeds. https://t.co/6qhT438UeP
@MutheSquirrel @punishedmother Untrue. There are traits that are passed along breed lines unique to line bred pit bulls. Greyhounds do not need to be trained to run, retrievers to retrieve, and pits to have the instinct to rush & attack. dog
