Abstract in brief
This study examined whether convalescent plasma could help critically ill COVID-19 patients with severe respiratory issues, and it involved 5 patients in China who were very ill despite standard treatments.
The patients were given plasma containing antibodies from recovered COVID-19 patients, and their clinical parameters such as body temperature, oxygen levels, and overall organ function were monitored before and after transfusion.
Results suggested potential benefits, as the patients showed improvements in various clinical measures after receiving the plasma, indicating that this could be a promising treatment option for severe COVID-19 cases.
But this uncontrolled study of 5 patients on convalescent plasma back in March 2020 seemed so promising... Next pandemic, let's be more careful about using good evidence to guide therapy. Nationwide adaptive RCTs and being thoughtful about pathophysiology. https://t.co/FNiGEWsddl https://t.co/dudp8V9sQB

Convalescent plasma shows promise in reversing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in critically ill covid-19 patients. A case study in China: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2763983#.Xn6S7t4_ELk.twitter
New Jersey should participate in the new trial!...
In a small case series with 5 patients with ARDS and #COVID19 who were treated with plasma containing antibodies against #SARSCoV2, 4 patients shown decreased of SOFA score and increased PAO2/FiO2, resolving ARDS after 12 days. From @JAMANetwork doi:10.1001/jama.2020.4783 https://t.co/71h5LGogmk
