Abstract in brief
This systematic review analyzed 45 randomized controlled trials to assess how long-term consumption of berries, citrus, and cherries impacts cardiovascular disease risk factors such as blood pressure, blood lipids, endothelial function, and inflammation.
The findings showed that berries, especially cranberry and cherry juice, significantly lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with cranberry juice reducing systolic blood pressure by about 15 mmHg and cherry juice by around 31 mmHg; berries also increased levels of certain inflammatory markers.
The review suggests that drinking cranberry or cherry juice may help improve blood pressure, but more research is needed to compare different fruits and understand how processing affects their heart health benefits.]
