What people are saying
The discussions highlight the core findings of the publication, such as statements like 'you don't need to train to failure for strength and power' and 'less peripheral fatigue and muscle damage,' reflecting a nuanced understanding and practical interest. The tone shifts between cautious agreement and active engagement, fostering a meaningful conversation about resistance training strategies.
Most discussions acknowledge that training not to failure can be as effective for strength and power, aligning with the systematic review's findings.
Posts show high interest, sharing detailed insights and referencing the meta-analysis, indicating engagement with the topic.
Several comments reference specific results, comment on practical implications, and debate training strategies, demonstrating deep engagement.
The discussions appear to influence perceptions around effective training methods, with some suggesting a shift in training approaches based on the findings.
Abstract in brief
- This systematic review analyzed how resistance training performed to failure (RTF) compares to not to failure (RTNF) in affecting muscle strength, hypertrophy, and power output in adults, based on 13 studies.
- The findings indicate no significant difference between RTF and RTNF in improving maximal strength and muscle power overall, but RTNF showed slightly better strength gains when training volumes were not equalized. Conversely, RT performed to failure resulted in greater muscle hypertrophy than RTNF, especially when training volumes were not matched.
- Overall, the review suggests that training to failure may lead to greater muscle growth, while both methods are similarly effective for improving strength and power, depending on training volume considerations.
