Abstract in brief
A comprehensive analysis of 17 cohort studies over 16 years shows that higher blood levels of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (like EPA and DHA) are linked to a 15-18% reduction in the risk of death from all causes, including heart disease and cancer.
The study found no significant link between the plant-based omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and mortality risk, indicating the benefits are specific to marine-derived omega-3s.
Overall, the findings support the idea that increasing circulating levels of marine omega-3 fatty acids may help lower the risk of early death.]

I’m still in the camp at higher levels of RBC EPA/DHA are important and target a minimum of 8% in my patients, and ideally north of 10%.

PUFAs & Longevity
➡️ This meta-analysis including over 40,000 participants from 17 cohorts across 10 countries found that high circulating levels of LC n-3 PUFAs, but not ALA, were associated with about a 15–18% lower risk of total mortality.

@ScepticalDoctor @skepcard It is interesting, esp in this population, but may be the exception. Higher omega-3 blood levels from other cohort's report significantly lower ACM, CVDM, and cancer mortality (EPA/DPA only). Always more work to be done!
