Abstract in brief
The study introduces the World Mortality Dataset, which collects all-cause mortality data from 103 countries to better measure COVID-19's true impact, since reported cases and deaths can be unreliable due to differences in testing and reporting policies.
They found that some countries, like Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Mexico, experienced very high excess mortality during the pandemic—over 50% above normal or more than 400 deaths per 100,000 people—while others like Australia and New Zealand saw lower-than-normal mortality possibly because of social distancing.
The research also revealed that some countries, including Nicaragua, Russia, and Uzbekistan, significantly underreported COVID-19 deaths, emphasizing the need for transparent and timely reporting of all-cause mortality to better track the pandemic's true impact.]

This video examines excess mortality as a key measure to understand the true impact of COVID-19, highlighting the importance of reliable data and comparing different countries' experiences during the pandemic.
@Mattcoleman1300 @Censored4sure I wasn’t looking at deaths at all. Merely indicating the huge percentage increases in # of Japanese aged 70-80 & plus 80 which is not accounted for by OWD (using Karlinsky & Kobak’s 2021 study as their baseline)

In the foregoing graph vaccines -- the blue line shows vaccines given, and you can see that the excess deaths track with the red lines, not the blue lines of vaccines given (except when vaccine waves were during major covid surges).

@AJemaineClement The source of the data is Karlinsky & Kobak. So I googled them and found the article https://t.co/qDPGKsFmQM
Gathering accurate data was impossible. Peru etc 50% above expected. In numbers it was 400 more in 100,000, 0.4%. Data can be manipulated so easily.
Super interesting:
"While many countries have been reporting COVID-19 deaths very accurately, some countries have been substantially underreporting their COVID-19 deaths (e.g. Nicaragua, Russia, Uzbekistan), by up to 2 orders of magnitude (Tajikistan)."

@WashburneAlex @JHowardBrainMD Alex, are you aware of excess mortality estimates of the burden of C19? because it doesn't seem like you are. There are many great works on this, I know mine the best and you can find it here: https://t.co/bokyV6B6EI

@ffkreiner @jschoeley @FleuryPayeur @M_B_Petersen @hippopedoid Globally and in many countries excess > reported C19 is not in dispute. But IHME's model is prob. no good for country-level excess estimates.
