Abstract in brief

Implementing a standardized handover checklist called the PATH checklist in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) significantly reduced hypoxaemic (low oxygen) events and fewer interruptions during patient handovers.
The study compared patients before and after the checklist introduction, showing a decrease in hypoxaemic events from 41% to 8%, with patients in the checklist group being 56 times less likely to experience these events.
These results support the idea that using structured checklists during patient handovers improves safety and quality of care after surgery.
