Abstract in brief

The study evaluated the effects of intensive versus standard blood pressure treatment in older Chinese patients with hypertension, focusing on a systolic target of 110-130 mm Hg versus 130-150 mm Hg.
Out of 9,624 patients screened, 8,511 were enrolled, with 4,243 assigned to the intensive treatment and 4,268 to standard treatment; the mean systolic blood pressure was lower in the intensive group after one year.
Results showed that primary cardiovascular events were significantly lower in the intensive treatment group (35 events) compared to the standard group (196 events), indicating potential benefits of tighter blood pressure control for older patients.
