Abstract in brief

  • The study analyzed contact times between professional football players in the German Bundesliga before and during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, finding that typical contact durations were short and infrequent.
  • Average one-on-one contacts lasted about 36 seconds before lockdown, decreasing to 30 seconds after, with very few contacts exceeding 15 minutes.
  • The pandemic led to a 25% reduction in match-specific contacts, raising questions about whether such brief, outdoor interactions pose a significant risk of virus transmission.]
