Abstract in brief
- This study used an intersectional, constructivist grounded theory approach to identify resources that support resilience in sexual and gender minority (SGM) communities, emphasizing perspectives from underrepresented groups such as racial minorities, trans and gender-diverse individuals, asexual spectrum members, and older adults.
- Analyzing responses from 315 participants in The PRIDE Study, the researchers identified a model of resilience resources categorized into social resources (like connecting with others and cultivating family), affective and generative resources (such as engaging in enriching pursuits and accessing economic support), and introspective resources (including exploring authentic self and persevering through hardship).
- The findings suggest that SGM individuals draw on a variety of resources throughout their lives to foster resilience, and public health practitioners can promote this resilience by supporting initiatives that enhance social connection, cultural participation, and economic stability within SGM communities.
