Abstract in brief

There were about 10 million TB cases in 2020, with 500,000 being drug-resistant, but only a third of these cases were diagnosed and treated due to limited availability of effective drug-susceptibility testing (DST) tools.
In 2014, WHO established target product profiles (TPPs) to address TB diagnostic needs, but the evolving landscape of TB treatment and resistance required an update to these profiles.
The revision of the DST TPP was conducted by WHO in collaboration with the Stop TB Partnership New Diagnostics Working Group, focusing on creating goals for next-gen TB DST tools for use in peripheral healthcare settings.
