The study compared two treatment methods for gastric varices: EUS-guided coil embolization with cyanoacrylate injection (CoilCYA) versus cyanoacrylate injection alone (CYA), and found that CoilCYA had higher success in obliterating varices and reducing reinterventions.
Both groups showed similar rates of rebleeding, but the CoilCYA group experienced fewer reinterventions, a longer time before reintervention was needed, and improved survival outcomes.
Overall, combining coil embolization with cyanoacrylate appears more effective and safer for treating gastric varices than using cyanoacrylate alone.
