Abstract in brief
- Curcuma-based nutritional supplements (CBNS) may help reduce the risk of developing or progressing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of vision loss.
- A retrospective cohort study using data from over 66,000 patients taking CBNS and over 1.8 million not taking CBNS found significant associations suggesting that CBNS users had lower rates of various forms of AMD, including nonexudative and exudative types.
- Results indicated that among older adults without a history of AMD, those using CBNS showed substantially reduced relative risks for developing AMD-related blindness and required therapies.
