Abstract in brief
- This study investigated how the ability of brain blood vessels in the medial temporal lobe to react to increased carbon dioxide (CVR) relates to memory function and cognitive impairment in older adults, including those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
- The findings showed that individuals with MCI had reduced CVR in this brain region even after accounting for factors like age, sex, education, genetics, and blood markers associated with Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting impaired cerebrovascular function.
- Additionally, better CVR was linked to improved memory performance on various tests, indicating that cerebrovascular health in the medial temporal lobe is important for memory and may influence early cognitive decline.]

New research suggests Mild Cognitive Impairment is linked to blood vessel dysfunction in brain's temporal lobes. In older ppl with & w/o signs of brain amyloid microvascular insults may be an early dementia biomarker and potential therapy target #Gibraltar https://t.co/PLkySSVwlw
