Abstract Synopsis

  • The study investigated the relationship between vitamin B12 levels and neurological function in healthy older adults, aiming to determine if normal B12 levels could be linked to neurological injury.
  • 231 elderly participants underwent various neurological assessments, including visual evoked potentials, processing speed tests, and MRI scans, alongside B12 level measurements.
  • Results indicated that lower B12 levels were associated with delays in visual processing, slower cognitive speed, and increased white matter damage on MRIs, highlighting the need to reconsider what constitutes "normal" B12 levels for optimal brain health.
