The discussions emphasize that, despite widespread beliefs, liposuction primarily affects subcutaneous fat and has little to no impact on insulin sensitivity or cardiometabolic risk factors, as seen in statements like 'liposuction is only a cosmetic fix' and references to studies showing no metabolic improvement. The tone is analytical and clarifies misconceptions, reflecting high engagement and interest in the research findings.
AgreementStrong agreement
Most discussions agree that liposuction alone doesn't improve metabolic health or insulin sensitivity, emphasizing that fat removal isn't a metabolic solution.
InterestHigh interest
The discussions reflect high interest, with multiple references, citations, and detailed explanations about the implications of the study.
EngagementHigh engagement
Participants actively analyze, referencing related research, discussing visceral versus subcutaneous fat, and questioning the procedure's health benefits, indicating deep engagement.
ImpactHigh impact
The conversations highlight significant impact on perceptions of cosmetic vs. health benefits, clarifying misconceptions and emphasizing the limited metabolic consequences of liposuction.
Abstract in brief
Liposuction significantly reduces subcutaneous abdominal fat but does not improve insulin sensitivity or other risk factors for coronary heart disease in women with obesity.
The procedure led to a substantial decrease in fat volume (around 28-44%) and total fat mass, yet it did not alter the body's ability to regulate glucose or lipid metabolism.
Consequently, liposuction alone does not offer metabolic benefits beyond fat loss, and decreasing adipose tissue mass by this method does not improve obesity-related metabolic abnormalities.

Liposuction is only a cosmetic fix. Only sucks out subcutaneous fat.
Does nothing to one's metabolism or visceral fat. The real culprit for diabetes/HTN/cardiovascular d/s/PCOS.

I can only find this and the study sort of suggests it's because lipo is subcutaneous fat and not visceral (which is the one associated with harms), so specifically lipo alone doesn't achieve much at all in terms of measurable health benefits?

Surgical removal of subcutaneous fat alone does not appear to affect insulin action, metabolic syndrome markers or risk factors for coronary heart disease [revisiting older article]. Visceral & hepatic fat play a key role in insulin resistance. https://t.co/objz2UVfOy https://t.co/v2aSVl1P8T

Despite the removal of large amounts of SQ adipose tissue via liposuction, glucose metabolism remains unchanged. https://t.co/6XwOErtL7H
So it begs the question, what happens if we remove the visceral adiposity that is more closely linked with cardiometabolic dysfxn? 2/n https://t.co/3FXNQ6U84b
