Abstract Synopsis
- The authors used five recent mindfulness questionnaires to explore the different aspects of mindfulness, analyzing their psychometric properties and how they relate to other psychological constructs in large samples of undergraduates.
- Factor analysis revealed five clear facets of mindfulness, and hierarchical confirmatory analyses indicated that at least four of these are part of an overall mindfulness construct, with structure possibly influenced by meditation experience.
- The study found that mindfulness facets are differently related to other variables and can predict psychological symptoms beyond other measures, supporting the idea that mindfulness is best understood as a complex, multi-dimensional concept.
