Abstract Synopsis

  • Infrasound refers to sound waves below 20 Hz, which are often thought to be inaudible, but in reality, the hearing threshold can go down to about 15 Hz, meaning some low-frequency sounds can be heard.
  • The sources of infrasound include natural phenomena, industrial activities, and machinery, but investigations into complaints often find little measurable infrasound, leading some to believe that issues might come from electromagnetic or other non-acoustic sources.
