Abstract in brief
This pilot study tested whether Rhodiola rosea, an herbal supplement used traditionally for anxiety and depression, can help reduce symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in a clinical setting.
Ten participants with GAD took 340 mg of Rhodiola rosea daily for 10 weeks, and results showed a significant decrease in anxiety symptoms, as measured by the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale.
While the findings are promising, with mild to moderate side effects like dizziness and dry mouth, the study suggests that further research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of Rhodiola rosea for GAD treatment.
R. rosea has also shown to help with symptoms of anxiety and depression. In one study of participants with diagnosed anxiety who took 340 mg R. rosea extract for 10 weeks showed significant reduction in their anxiety.
