Abstract Synopsis

  • Strength training combined with endurance training enhances leg strength and boosts performance in a 5-minute all-out cycling test after 185 minutes of submaximal cycling in well-trained athletes.
  • The study found that cyclists doing heavy strength training increased their 1RM in squats, and showed greater improvements in power output, oxygen consumption, heart rate, blood lactate, and perceived exertion compared to those who only did endurance training.
  • Overall, adding strength exercises leads to better endurance performance and efficiency during prolonged cycling efforts. ]
