    September 5, 2011

Abstract Synopsis

  • The total estimated number of eukaryotic species on Earth is around 8.7 million, with approximately 2.2 million of those being marine species.
  • Despite over 1.2 million species already catalogued, around 86% of species on land and 91% in the ocean remain undescribed.
  • There is a pressing need for further exploration and taxonomic research to fill this significant gap in our understanding of global biodiversity.
