Abstract Synopsis
- The study tested the protein leverage hypothesis, which suggests that a strong desire for protein may lead to increased overall energy intake and possibly obesity, by providing lean humans with diets of varying protein levels.
- Results showed that reducing dietary protein from 15% to 10% led to increased total energy intake, mainly from snacks, but did not fully maintain protein intake, indicating that protein leverage is only partial; increasing protein to 25% did not change energy intake.
