Abstract Synopsis

  • The study used the Aesop's fable paradigm to explore how New Caledonian crows understand water displacement by dropping stones into water to get rewards.
  • The crows showed a preference for dropping stones in water-filled tubes, selected sinking over floating objects, and chose solid over hollow items, indicating they have some grasp of causal relationships.
