Abstract Synopsis

  • The study analyzed data from 7 placebo-controlled statin trials to determine which lipid marker (LDL-C, non-HDL-C, or apoB) best predicts the reduction in coronary heart disease risk from statin therapy, finding that apoB is most closely related.
  • Both frequentist and Bayesian statistical methods showed that decreases in apoB levels are more strongly associated with the reduction in cardiovascular risk compared to LDL-C and non-HDL-C, with Bayesian analysis strongly favoring apoB as the best marker.
  • The findings suggest that monitoring apoB levels may provide a better assessment of lipid-lowering treatment effectiveness and overall risk reduction in coronary heart disease prevention than traditional lipid markers.
