Before, we've stuck to central lines for pressors to avoid extravasation but waiting for CL isn't an option when profoundly hypotensive. Short-term peripheral admin of pressors is safe. Complications arise after ~55h of infusion #medsky #EMsky #nursesky #pharmsky pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25669592/

Abstract Synopsis

  • This systematic review examined reports of tissue injury or extravasation caused by vasopressor drugs administered through peripheral or central IVs, analyzing data up to January 2014.
  • A total of 85 articles involving 270 patients were included, with most tissue injury events (204 out of 270) resulting from peripheral IV vasopressor infusions, which typically lasted around 24 hours.
  • The review highlights that most injuries occurred at sites distal to major joints, and emphasizes the need for further research to better understand the safety of peripheral vasopressor administration.
