AI synopsis

What people are saying

The collection includes posts referencing neuroscience experiments on fear memory, such as studies on hippocampal neurons and epigenetic modifications, alongside more philosophical discussions about societal memory and oppression. The tone shifts between scientific detail, personal reflection, and cultural commentary, reflecting high interest and some engagement, which together indicate that the collective discussion recognizes the importance of fear and memory while remaining open-ended in their implications.

AgreementNeither agree nor disagree

The discussion shows a mix of opinions, with some posts referencing specific research findings and others expressing skepticism or emotional reactions, indicating neither strong agreement nor disagreement overall.

InterestHigh interest

Many posts focus on detailed neuroscience studies, societal implications, and cultural references related to fear and memory, showing high interest in the subject matter.

EngagementModerate engagement

Posts cite scientific studies, interpret experimental results, discuss applications, and evoke emotional or philosophical reflections, showing a moderate level of deep engagement.

ImpactModerate impact

The discussions highlight that understanding fear memory has potential influences on therapy, societal control, and cultural memory, suggesting a modest but meaningful impact in both scientific and societal contexts.

Abstract in brief

  • Fear memory is the most extensively studied type of memory, mainly explored through classical conditioning (like contextual fear conditioning and fear conditioning to a tone) and a specific instrumental task called inhibitory avoidance.
  • The brain regions involved in fear memory include the hippocampus, amygdala (basolateral and lateral parts), prefrontal cortex, and other structures, with different areas responsible for different types of fear learning.
  • Understanding fear memory has helped analyze how memories are consolidated at a biochemical level, and studying how drugs affect fear learning has implications for treating anxiety and PTSD through techniques like fear extinction, which reverses learned fear responses.]

Fear & memory circuits: Amygdala → acute fear. BNST → sustained anxiety. Hippocampal dysfunction → poor trauma contextualisation. Dissociation disrupts these networks, leaving patients stuck in hyperarousal or shutdown.

Given Npas4’s property to be Ca2+ &NMDAR dependent, we saw that 2nd wave can be blocked by inhibiting NMDAR signaling using APV infusion. How does this second wave affect memory consolidation? Blocking the expression of the second wave by inhibiting NMDAR signaling increased the fear memory.

Fascism targets universities for a reason. Because critical thought disrupts the script. Because history breaks the spell. Authoritarians don’t fear ideas—they fear memory, complexity, contradiction. Dissent isn’t noise. It’s resistance.

A few days ago, Dr. Raül Andero, head of the Translational Mechanisms of Fear Memory lab, paid a special visit to Escola Sant Jordi, in Mollet del Vallès, during their cultural week. He met with curious third-grade students to explore the fascinating world of the brain and how it works.

But a medal will not bring back a person. We can only bring back one thing - memory. Memory that will become an accusation. Memory that will drive away fear. Memory that will not allow to negotiate with those who kill in cells. Mykola is survived by his mother, three brothers, a sister and nephews.

@cineblah.bsky.social post got me thinking more about SINNERS. One of the things that really impressed me, is how many different aspects of life it touches on. There’s aspects of economics, spirituality, sex, art, community, history, fear, memory and that’s what makes it feel real. 1/x
