Abstract Synopsis
- This meta-analysis reviewed 28 studies to examine how different shift work patterns, especially night shifts, are linked to various types of obesity, finding that night shift workers have a significantly higher risk (odds ratio of 1.23) of being overweight or obese.
- The results showed that night shift work increases the likelihood of abdominal obesity more than other types, and permanent night workers face a greater risk compared to rotating shift workers, suggesting a potential gradient in risk levels.
- The study recommends changing work schedules, especially for those with long-term permanent night shifts, and calls for more precise future research on shift work patterns to better understand their impact on obesity risk.]
