Abstract in brief
This document summarizes global guidelines for the management of groin hernia, highlighting the need for standardized treatment approaches to improve patient outcomes, reduce recurrence, and minimize chronic pain.
An international expert group, including surgeons and a pain specialist, used evidence-based medicine to review current research and develop clear recommendations, grading their strength through established methodologies.
The guidelines were validated using the AGREE II instrument, reviewed by international experts, and aim to provide consistent, high-quality care across different clinical settings worldwide.

Current guidelines recommend preperitoneal lap approach for women and bilateral, recurrent, and femoral hernias (at least)

If a patient has one, best to send them to someone who regularly does MIS. https://t.co/CjlzuDYI26 https://t.co/bNLpPgItPS

Watchful waiting 'may be used' in very small or asymptomatic hernias but most will eventually require surgery.
Not a definite case for operating every hernia but also doesnt recommend no treatment as dependable.

@rintasurg In lateral and small/mid size medial inguinal hernia hernias (EHS classification) there is no difference in recurrence with no fixation. (Medium weight or light mesh)
But if concerned, non-tacked (glue or suture) fixation is recommended to avoid pain.

@HopeFeldmanMD @acsJACS @AmCollSurgeons @WomenSurgeons @SAGES_Updates Check out the international guidelines for groin hernia management. By the Herniasurge group. Plug no longer recommended, simply a flat piece of polypropylene. Great reference document.
