Abstract in brief
Food's environmental impacts vary significantly among millions of producers, with data from 38,700 farms and 1,600 processors revealing potential for substantial mitigation.
Impacts can differ by up to 50 times for the same product, highlighting the need for tailored solutions, but trade-offs and varying methods complicate reduction efforts.
Low-impact animal products often still have a larger environmental footprint than plant-based options, emphasizing the need for dietary changes and encouraging producers to monitor and communicate their impacts to consumers.

@HPA1999 @katsuyou5 That’s not true though. Basically animals need grains too so not only do they take up space for grazing. They also take up a lot of land for food. This has been scientifically proven completely contrary to what you believe and what you just posted.

Comfort & egoism are *not* just personal choices,—research shows how consumption patterns & individual habits have measurable impacts on animals, ecosystems, & exacerbate environmental crises.
@ktibus @simonmaechling That is true - but the change to a plant-based diet could deliver a far greater benefit (in terms of land-use and climate impacts) - & far more rapidly and if we are serious about nature and our future environment is the obvious priority.

It is interesting how tight agriculture & climate system is & how every part of our diet and lifestyle has an impact on climate!
Also, solving a lot of climate problems boils down to reimagining and realigning incentives (in this video - for rice farmers)

It’s quite funny how people refer to the referenced paper as “completely wrong”. Incorrect papers do not stay published on Science.

@fitomnivore What is it ignorant of? As per Poore et al we can feed everyone using less cropland than we use now and zero pastureland. We could even let that spare 240 million ha of land lie fallow for legumes, reducing soil erosion on the cropland we do use. https://t.co/nIDNkJFWXB https://t.co/jwA5vmLiGB

@arts_moto @BurningClock @naturelifeline @VeganRoo @NoQuarantine21 @GershonMatzkin @Ivy_MiddletonUK @T1TaN1uM4_22 @ScouseSocialis2 There's no bigger impact on the damage to the environment with a completely gratuitous practice than with respect to animal agriculture.
You should get out and try read more sometimes before you spout off poppycock.
https://t.co/vKPq9y7cpe
What if we could cut our carbon footprint by 73%, global arable land usage by 75% and reduce deforestation to a fraction of what it is today WITHOUT any downsides?
Wait! we can:
Source: https://t.co/ONohVR762k
Why aren't you advocating for this? #COP26
#ClimateAction #vegan
2/2
You'd think that the #COP26Glasgow will be based on the latest scientific reviews on #climate change, yet we have data from studies like Poore & Nemecek (2018) which they are just ignoring. One could suspect they are being pressured to disregard it...
https://t.co/ONohVR762k
@HazySurvivor @Alphagen3 @abcnews That's an appeal to age, an ad hominem, and a red herring fallacy on the same reply. Being so wise and old, surely you know what those are.
If you can't grow your food, you should be choosing the less detrimental option for the environment, plant-based: https://t.co/ONohVR762k.
@arts_moto @Ivy_MiddletonUK @GershonMatzkin @T1TaN1uM4_22 @ScouseSocialis2 @vegannutrition1 Finally I'll just point out that the current scientific consensus from respected medical institutions worldwide is that a vegan diet is healthy & adequate for ALL ages & ALL lifestyles, incl. professional athleticism/4 fin

@urbandietitian We live in 2021, about everyone with access to Twitter can adopt a vegan diet EASILY. And it would wipe out the third most impactful sector (after industry and electricity production).
We can cut our carbon footprint by 75% if we just #GoVegan.
https://t.co/TicZdfQJuZ
@Sovereign_Beast What? The poorest countries in the world have the highest amount of plant-based meals in the world. Because it's exponentially cheaper to grow plants than farm animal products.
https://t.co/ONohVR762k
@AlainChristian @vegan_logic For more info regarding agricultural data to back up my claims, please read Reducing foods environmental impacts through producers and consumers (Poore and Nemecek, 2018), the most comprehensive analysis of agriculture & environment ever performed
@ndv0r @VeggiePowered @Vamos_eMini @TheEconomist Explain to me how modern animal agriculture has anything to do with nature and balance.
Killing 78 billion land animals, up to 3 trillion fish, causing catastrophes such as the deforestation of the Amazon or the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
https://t.co/ONohVR762k.
@Kaidalen @G1rthl0rd180 @ostonox Animal agriculture is one of the leading factors on climate change. It produces more greenhouse gas emissions than the whole transportation sector.
Growing meat costs up to 25 times more land and exponentially more water.
https://t.co/ONohVR762k.
Let's discuss those first. Go on
@FinanceTerror A dogma supported by thousands of scientific papers. I'll leave just one meta-analysis on health: https://t.co/CQ6qDM90tS and other on environment: https://t.co/ONohVR762k.
Dogmatism is literally the opposite of veganism. Now, where are the sources for your claims?
