Abstract Synopsis
- People believe in conspiracy theories across different cultures because these beliefs may stem from innate psychological mechanisms that evolved to detect threats like dangerous groups or conspiracies.
- There are two main ideas about why these beliefs exist: one suggests they are byproducts of general mental processes like pattern recognition, and the other proposes they are part of a specialized evolved mechanism for detecting harmful coalitions.
