Abstract Synopsis
- This systematic review analyzed 17 studies to determine whether creatine supplements, combined with exercise, provide additional health benefits—such as increased muscle strength, bone density, or improved mental health—for older adults.
- The findings suggest that to see improvements in muscle strength, function, and lean mass, older adults likely need to take a low dose of creatine daily for at least 12 weeks alongside resistance training; longer periods might be necessary for noticeable effects on bone density.
- There was little evidence to support that creatine has extra mental health benefits when combined with exercise in this age group, indicating that its primary benefits may be related to physical aspects like muscle and bone health.]
