Abstract Synopsis

  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of resuscitation focused on peripheral perfusion versus serum lactate levels in reducing 28-day mortality for patients with septic shock.
  • Conducted across 28 ICUs in 5 countries, 424 patients were randomly assigned to either a peripheral perfusion-targeted protocol or a lactate-targeted protocol during an 8-hour intervention.
  • Results showed that while there was no significant difference in mortality (34.9% in the peripheral group vs. 43.4% in the lactate group), peripheral perfusion-targeted resuscitation was linked to reduced organ dysfunction within 72 hours.
