ICD2 Trial: prophylactic ICD therapy do not reduce the rate of SCD or all-cause mortality in patients on dialysis with LVEF ≥35%. A negative but important trial to improve risk stratification beyond LVEF alone ! https://t.co/OyV6oy9F7F … @CircAHA #EPeeps https://t.co/SMCRKI6nqC

Fantastic trial and great effort from the ICD2 investigators. Disappointed that ICDs appear ineffective for #SCD in #ESKD, but again not entirely surprised at the results. A worrisome trend for #CVD prevention in #ESKD... https://t.co/LOUUSRuBm4

Abstract Synopsis

  • The study investigated whether implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) can prevent sudden cardiac death in dialysis patients with weakened heart function, but found no significant benefit.
  • The trial was stopped early because it showed the ICDs did not significantly reduce sudden death or improve overall survival, and about a quarter of patients with ICDs experienced related complications.
  • Overall, the results suggest that using prophylactic ICDs in dialysis patients who are carefully screened and treated may not be effective in reducing the risk of sudden cardiac death.]
