Abstract Synopsis
- Most studies on caffeine’s effects on sports performance focus on men, but since men and women differ in body size, composition, and hormones, their responses to caffeine may also differ.
- The systematic review analyzed research comparing caffeine's effects between sexes and found that while some studies showed no difference in aerobic performance or fatigue, most indicated men benefit more than women in anaerobic performance, like power and speed.
- Overall, caffeine tends to enhance anaerobic performance more in men, suggesting that dosage and expectations might need to be adjusted based on sex for optimal athletic results.
