NOW AVAILABLE: Trihalomethane levels in European drinking water have fallen over the past 20 years, on average. However, current levels in some EU countries may still be high enough to contribute to bladder cancers. Read the article ➡️ https://t.co/V1If3YA4w1 https://t.co/tRgw3iU0HZ

Abstract Synopsis

  • Trihalomethanes (THMs) are common byproducts of drinking water disinfection linked to increased bladder cancer risks from long-term exposure.
  • The study assessed THM levels across 28 EU countries, estimating the number of bladder cancer cases attributable to these exposure levels using swimming cancer incidence rates.
  • Results indicated about 43 cases of bladder cancer could be avoided annually if countries reduced THM levels to the current EU mean, highlighting ongoing risks and the need for further reduction efforts in some areas.
